Course meets at our Main Campus in Stillwater. Course Description: • As a state and federally regulated training program, this course will prepare and train individuals to work in a long-term care facility, assisted living facility, or hospital. Students learn how to perform functions and procedures relating to the personal hygiene, safety, comfort, nutrition, exercise, and elimination needs of residents. You will also learn proper lifting and moving procedures as well as how to correctly measure and document temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure. • This course prepares students to take the Health Certification Project Long-Term Care clinical and written certification tests for Oklahoma to become a Certified Nurse Aide. Prerequisites: • There are no prerequisites in order to enroll in the program; however, individuals must submit the required immunization records and national felony background check information by the established deadline. Pertinent Information: • All books included in tuition. • Documentation of immunizations is required before the student can participate in clinicals. This will be discussed in-depth with students during the first night of class. • Students will also be required to obtain a national felony record search to include a Sex Offender Registry search from an entity designated by Meridian Technology Center. This record search must be conducted after the individual begins the program. Students who have a positive response will be reviewed for eligibility to complete training. • Students will be practicing skills through various scenarios, so should dress accordingly. No short shorts, sleeveless tops, or open-toed shoes are allowed in the lab. • Students must complete 100 percent of the theory hours and clinical hours in order to be eligible for course completion. • Students will be tested throughout the course and must have an overall average score of 77 percent or better to be eligible for class completion. • Students will spend 16 hours in clinical observation at area healthcare facilities. Clinicals are required for course completion and student should be prepared to make the necessary personal arrangements to ensure attendance is not in question. Professional Nurse Aide attire will be required for the clinicals. • Students will be certified in CPR (American Heart Association BLS Provider) during the course (and prior to clinical rotations) – 100 percent attendance is required and certification is mandatory for course completion. • The HCP clinical and written exams are regularly hosted at Meridian Technology Center. Fees are $35 for the clinical exam and $40 for the written exam. • Upon successful completion of the course, students must pass the HCP clinical and written exams to receive certification and be placed on the Oklahoma Nurse Aide Registry. • Once on the Registry, licensure must be renewed through the Registry every two years. • All applicants to the Registry will be checked by the OSBI for any type of criminal arrest. • Also, all applicants will be checked to see if their name is on the abuse registry. If they are, their license will be revoked in Oklahoma.
